At Dyslexia Tutor Fort Wayne, we've had a love of reading from the very beginning.
Hi! Kate here. I'd love to tell you how we got started.
I was home-schooled through middle school and high school. I became interested in helping dyslexic students because my younger brother struggled with learning to read for many years. He was such a smart and amazing kid. It was hard to see him work for hours and hours each day and make very little progress. I started helping my mom with his instruction when she would get frustrated while I was a high-schooler. In 2013 he was finally diagnosed with dyslexia. I was eager to continue to help and I took over as his primary reading teacher. After much determination and hard work, I completed his therapy as a fluent reader in 2015. He graduated high school in 2019 and read such books as The Illiad, The Count of Monte Cristo, Moby Dick, and Dante's Divine Comedy.
During my success with his education, I found how great a joy it was to open up the world of book to students who previously were unable to enjoy reading. I began tutoring struggling readers as a business in 2015. Because of my own family's experience dealing with dyslexia, I am intimately aware of the frustrations and hardships reading problems can cause. Dyslexics and struggling readers are creative, intelligent, and passionate people who only lack the ability to read. My favorite part of my job is giving them this amazing gift of reading fluency, and watching them flourish through the process.
