What families in Utah should know
Utah's ESA — called Utah Fits All — is genuinely broad and family-friendly: about $8,000 a year, open to nearly any K-12 student, and usable for tutoring, therapy, curriculum, and a long list of other approved services, not just private-school tuition. Utah also just funded a brand-new statewide Dyslexia Screening Pilot Program in 2026, built in partnership with the University of Utah, on top of $25.6 million in new literacy coaching funding for teachers.
One thing to watch: the legislature added new spending caps in 2025 after the program's first years, limiting how much of an account can go toward extracurriculars (capped at 20%) and physical education (also capped at 20%). That's a sign the state is actively tightening the rules as it learns how families are actually using the money — worth checking the current rules each year rather than assuming last year's guidance still applies.

Tutor and therapist pathways
Utah has no separate state-issued "dyslexia therapist" credential. Private tutors need no state license to operate, though those seeking Utah Fits All vendor status will need to register through the program's approved-provider process. The national CALT, Barton, and Wilson certifications remain the practical benchmark.
