What families in Oklahoma should know
Oklahoma created something genuinely useful for tutors starting in 2025: teachers who complete advanced CALT (Certified Academic Language Therapist) or CERI training can now earn a state-recognized micro-credential specifically authorizing them to screen and support students with dyslexia. That's a real bridge between the national certifications you'll see referenced throughout this directory and formal recognition inside Oklahoma's public school system.
For families, Oklahoma also has a refundable tax credit (not quite the same as an ESA, but functions similarly for many purposes) that helps cover private-school tuition, tiered by household income — families with lower incomes get a bigger credit. It's mainly built around tuition rather than outside tutoring, so if your child is staying in public school and just needs a tutor, this program likely won't reach you directly.

Tutor and therapist pathways
Oklahoma law (Title 70 § 6-194) requires dyslexia awareness professional development for all certified school staff, and since July 2025 requires all new early childhood, elementary, and special education teacher candidates to pass a reading instruction assessment aligned to the science of reading. The new CALT/CERI micro-credential (2025) is the closest thing to a formal "dyslexia specialist" recognition in the state. Private tutors need no state license to operate; the national CALT, Barton, and Wilson certifications remain the practical benchmark outside the school system.
