Dyslexia Tutors in Louisiana

Local provider listings plus state-specific guidance for families seeking reading support.

What families in Louisiana should know

Louisiana's LA GATOR program (Giving All True Opportunity to Rise) is a genuinely well-designed ESA on paper — up to $15,253 a year for students with disabilities, spendable directly on tutoring, therapy, and curriculum, not just private-school tuition. Louisiana also has one of the more detailed dyslexia screening laws in the country, including a dedicated Dyslexia Fund to help cover testing costs.

But the program's first two years have been genuinely rocky. In its first year, more than 36,000 families were approved — and only about 5,500 actually received funding, roughly 15%. Only around 700 families were entirely new to any state scholarship program; most of the money went to families already receiving the older program LA GATOR replaced. This year, the state also cut the application window from 46 days down to about two weeks, and applications dropped by more than half as a result. If you're a Louisiana parent, budget extra time and patience for this one — approval doesn't mean the money is coming quickly, or even coming at all.

Tutor and therapist pathways

Louisiana law requires K-3 dyslexia screening and reporting, and the state maintains detailed procedural guidance for schools (Bulletin 1903). There's no separate statewide "dyslexia therapist" credential comparable to Alabama's or Arkansas's. Private tutors need no state license to operate; the national CALT, Barton, and Wilson standards remain the practical benchmark.
