What families in Georgia should know
Georgia has quietly built one of the more thorough public-school responses to dyslexia in the Southeast — a dedicated "Dyslexia Endorsement" for teachers since 2019, and a law requiring every kindergarten through 3rd grade student to be screened for reading trouble three times a year, more frequently than many states require.
Where Georgia comes up short is funding help outside the public school system. Unlike neighboring Florida, Georgia has no ESA — no account a family can spend directly on a private tutor. What exists instead is a tax-credit scholarship program, commonly called "GOAL," which mostly funds private-school tuition rather than outside tutoring. If your child is staying in their current school and just needs extra reading help, this program likely won't help you pay for it.

Tutor and therapist pathways
Georgia created an official "Dyslexia Endorsement" for teachers under Ga. Code § 20-2-208, established by the Professional Standards Commission in 2019. It covers training on universal screening measures, guidance for parents, and training other school staff. There's no requirement for private tutors to hold any state license — the national CALT, Barton, and Wilson certifications are the standard here as elsewhere.
